Sisters in History

Virginia City and Carson City have been tied together as “Sisters in History” since the 1860's of Territorial Nevada.

Our combined history is significantly inseparable. A visit to Virginia City will entice you to consider a visit to Carson City. While Virginia City was the industrial or commercial site of early Nevada, Carson City was the political center as Nevada's state capitol. State politics emanated from Virginia City and were culminated in Carson City. Mark Twain got his name while living in Virginia City. His connection to Carson City was also a focal point for Carson City and state politics.

Virginia City, Queen of the Comstock
In 1859, the mountains around Virginia City were found to conceal great wealth. The city held the attention of the world with its mining industry for more than half a century, pouring over $700 million in gold and silver into an ever-expanding nation.

Stroll along C Street’s historic boardwalks to step back in time. Shops, museums, mine tours, Old West saloons, and the railroad are still “the way it was.” Fourth Ward School Museum, Piper’s Opera House, St. Mary’s Art Center, the Silver Terrace Cemetery and many other 1800’s structures speak eloquently of limitless wealth.

You’ll also find charming motels, hotels and B&B’s plus an RV park named one of the best in the U.S.
