Major Special Events

Oysters, camels, parades, concerts, hot rods, and outhouses round out the usual and unusual things a visitor can see in Virginia City. 2012 is sure to not disappoint. The town is a happenin' place with events scheduled throughout the year, so check this page often.

Not-to-be-Missed Events

  • "The Devil Made Me Do It" Valentine Pub Crawl in February, is a chance to visit some of Virginia City's finest watering holes including the Ponderosa, the Red Dog, the Silver Queen, and many more.
  • In March, the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry & St. Patrick's Day Parade features marching leprechauns, green attractions, and a Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry (yep—they are either beef or sheep testicles, or some of both.)
  • The Virginia City Grand Prix in April is a chance to join over 3000 spectators that line the streets cheering for the over 1000 dirt bike racers.
  • In May, "Fire On The Mountain" ICS Chili Cook-Off & Beltane Festival features Celtic music and dancers throughout the town. Beltane means 'bright fire' or 'lucky fire', and is the Irish and Scottish Gaelic name for May Day.
  • In June, the Nevada State Cowboy Fast Draw Championship comes to Virginia City. The competitors' credo is, "The Cowboy Way in action and deed." It requires no explanation.
  • The Americana Music Festival in July showcases six different historical venues with live music, workshops and lots of jamming. Almost everything is FREE!
  • Hot August Nights Show N Shine & Poker Run in August is the nationally recognized annual celebration of vintage music and autos in the Reno-Tahoe area. Many of these classic cars will be cruisin' to Virginia City.
  • The 53rd Annual International Camel Races in September feature competitors of every unlikely species, from camels to ostriches and emus. Set atop a historic mining quarry in Virginia City, the unique event combines an annual entertainment tradition with gold-rush era nostalgia.
  • The World Championship Outhouse Races take place in October. Have a wacky, wonderful time as three-person teams race wildly decorated outhouses down Virginia City's main street.
  • Christmas On The Comstock and Parade Of Lights in December, show just how brightly Virginia City shines during the holidays.
