Celebrate Nevada's mining history at Comstock Muckfest. Muckfest is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tour local museums and learn about the history of Virginia City and the important role mining had on Nevada becoming a state. Hop on the Virginia City Trolley as it journeys through town, making stops at select locations where mining demonstrations, both historic and modern, take place. Check out the Comstock Modern Mine Tour at the Gold Hill Depot or see a live minting at the Marshall Mint Museum between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Click here for full schedule of events.
Join in on the fun and experience a day in the life of a Virginia City miner. For $10, enter the team handrail race competition or the mucking contest, taking place throughout the day. Winners take home bragging rights and a trophy, not to mention some great photos! Dry panning and panning for gems is also available throughout the day.
Coinciding with Comstock Muckfest is the Virginia City Wine Tour Series, taking place the first Saturday of each month and the Geocaching Kick Off Rally. The wine tour includes a commemorative Virginia City stemless wine glass, a map and wine samples at 18 locations throughout town for $20. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the Visitors Center in Virginia City, located at 86 South C Street. The Geocaching Kick Off Rally will be at Gold Hill Depot from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
