Lecture: SS Central America Treasure
Thursday, November 09, 2017, 05:30pm - 09:30pm

Fred Holabird continues the Gold Hill Hotel lecture series with a talk about the SS Central America Treasure.

The most famous wreck of the nineteenth century was the SS Central America, loaded with $3 million in gold from the California gold rush in 1857.

Located in the 1990's by high-tech engineers at a depth of 8,000 feet, a major portion was recovered. A decade of lawsuits followed, culminating in the sale of the gold. Fifteen years later, a second round was recovered, little known to the public.

Fred Holabird has been one of the key components to the treasure story since late 1999. He worked for the Federal Court, the Insurance companies, and the investors to unravel mysteries of the wreck, cargo and people on board.

Fred Holabird is a mining geologist (64). He spent the first half of his career in exploration and production of precious metals here in Nevada, managing two open-pit gold companies. He created Holabird's Western Americana, specializing in Mining in America, in 1983 as a second business. Today it is the largest auction company of Western Americana in the United States. Holabird remains very active in the mining business, consulting on production, management and environmental issues regularly.

November 9th at 7:00 PM. It will be an interesting evening! Discover the little-known facts.
